A pair of George III antique silver cast candlesticks in excellent condition. The candlesticks have waisted sconces with cable girdles and the flaring, scalloped nozzles are embellished on each corner with a shell.

Description

A pair of George III antique silver cast candlesticks in excellent condition. The candlesticks have waisted sconces with cable girdles and the flaring, scalloped nozzles are embellished on each corner with a shell.

The baluster knopped columns have leaf embellishments. They rise from a stepped square base with a gadroon circular border containing a ducal crest.

The nozzles, which detach, also have a ducal crest.

The bases have incurved sides and shell embellished corners.

Dimensions: height 23 cm, bases 10 cm, diagonally 13.9 cm; weight 29.60 troy oz.

William Cafe

William Cafe, apprenticed to his brother John Cafe in 1742, turned himself over to Simon Jouet in 1746. Free 1757. Livery 1758. Mark entered as large worker 1757, probably on the death of his brother John.

Both William and John were known for their cast candlesticks. Known apprentices were Thomas Neale in 1777 and William’s son, Thomas, in 1784. William died c. 1802 – 1811.

Purchases will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, FedEx, Parcel Force, A-Z couriers; other delivery providers may be used in extenuating circumstances. We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
