Ebenezer Coker, apprenticed to Joseph Smith 1728, free 1740. Worked in Clerkenwell.

First mark entered 1738. Second mark 1739. Third mark 1745. Fourth mark 1751. Fifth mark c. 1758. Another mark was entered in partnership with Thomas Hannam, 1759. Bankrupt by 1781 and died on 2 August 1783.

Specialist candlestick and salver maker. His work is always of a high standard.

In the earlier part of his career - until the late 1750s - principally a spoon maker.

BARKER BROTHERS, BARKER BROTHERS SILVERSMITHS LTD, BARKER ELLIS SILVER CO

Business established in Birmingham in 1801. The firm still possesses the original Boulton &amp; Watt dies acquired during its early days of manufacturing. The business appears in an 1871 directory as Barker Brothers, silversmiths active in Paradise Street.

In 1903, they moved to new factory premises, Unity Works, Constitution Hill, Birmingham, where it remained until the 1980s maintaining a London showroom during the early part of the 20th century.

In 1907, the firm was converted into a limited liability company under the style Barker Brothers Silversmiths Ltd.

Levi &amp; Salaman Ltd and its subsidiary Potosi Silver Co were incorporated by Barker Brothers in 1921.

In the 1960s, merging with Ellis &amp; Co (Birmingham) Ltd, the firm changed to Barker Ellis Silver Co Ltd.

On January 2, 1979, the firm obtained a Federal registration in the USA for the trademarks Ellis &amp; Co, Barker Ellis and Ellis Barker (the marks were cancelled in 1988)

The Zaanlandse Zilversmederijen was founded in 1875 by Gerardus Schoorl (1848-1925) and was famous for copies of early Dutch silver.

Born in 1774 and last in the line of the Bateman dynasty of silversmiths.

Second son of Jonathan and Ann Bateman, and grandson of Hester. Apprenticed in 1789 and free on the 6 February 1799. First mark entered in 1799 in partnership with Peter and Ann, January 1800. Address: Bunhill Row. Second mark with Peter in 1805. Working alone from 1815.

He sold the family business in around 1840 and died in Stoke Newington in 1850.

John Eckford II, London silversmith, apprenticed to John Fawdery 1712, turned over to John Eckfourd 1712, and turned over again to Philip Rollos 1714. Free 1723. Two marks entered as largeworker (sterling and new standard) 1725. 3rd mark entered 1739.

His son Joseph apprenticed to Henry Brind 1746, and another John to John Swift 1753.

John Eckfourd II

Joseph Bird (active before 1685, died 1735), London silversmith, free of the Brewers Company sometime prior to 1685. Largeworker. He entered 2 undated marks circa 1697 at the address in Foster Lane where he continued to work throughout his career. 3rd mark no date or address attributed. 4th (sterling) 1724. Some of his marks incorporate a little bird .

Joseph Bird was a specialist candlestick maker who passed down his skills to his apprentice David Green and through Green to James Gould who in turn was master to John Cafe. A worthy line of distinguished candlestick makers.

A Matched Pair of Early Eighteenth Century Antique Silver Candlesticks made in 1714 /1737

No record of apprenticeship or freedom. First mark entered as largeworker, in partnership with Robert Abercromby, 11 May 1731. Address: Christopher Court, St. Martin's Le Grand. Second mark alone, 6 July 1731, same address. Third mark, undated, between 24 December 1735 and 18 March 1736. Address: Glasshouse Yard, Blackfriars. Fourth mark (two sizes), 27 June 1739, same address. Moved to Essex Street, Strand, 7 December 1748. Moved to 'ye Strand', 9 July 1753 (register entry without mark). Fifth mark, 15 September 1753. Heal records him as plateworker, St. Martin’s Le Grand, 1731; Blackfriars, 1735; Glasshouse Street, 1739; and as goldsmith, Blackmoors Head, Strand, 1743; goldsmith, Tooley Street, Southwark; and jeweller and goldsmith, Crown opposite Durham Yard, Strand, and King's Arms and Birdcage, opposite Durham Yard, both c.1750. Like his partner for a few months, Abercromby, Hindmarsh seems to have made practically nothing but salvers , waiters chambersticks and candlesticks

Hawksworth, Eyre &amp; Co was a silversmith and manufacturing company of silver and silver plated items based in Sheffield. Founded in 1833 by Charles Hawksworth and John Eyre. The partnership was dissolved in 1869 and the business was continued by James Kebberling Bembridge, Thomas Hall and George Woodhouse.

In the 1870s the firm became a limited liability Hawksworth, Eyre &amp; Co Ltd. The company registered further marks in 1900 and 1912. They ceased trading in the 1930s.

John Roberts, a Sheffield silversmith. Roberts worked in several partnerships prior to entering a mark in his own name. John Parsons &amp; Co registered their mark on 3 July 1793 - the partners were John Parsons, William Ashforth, John Roberts, Samuel Mosley and John Green. This firm only manufactured candlesticks.

John Parsons left after 5 months, and the remaining partners registered their mark in December 1793 as John Green &amp; Co. Again, they only manufactured candlesticks. William Ashforth retired in 1805, so partners Roberts, Mosley and Settle registered the mark John Roberts &amp; Co. The firm continued to manufacture candlesticks and wine coasters.

John Roberts died in 1807, and his son, John Winter Roberts, became partner until 1812. When he left, he continued to trade as John Roberts &amp; Co and re-entered the mark in 1813 with partners Thomas Clayton and John Amory. The partnership was dissolved by 1820.
