Thomas Northcote Son of Richard Northcote of Well Close Square in the Country of Middlesex cooper, apprenticed to Charles Hutton 23 June 1766, and turned over “having served his indenture” to Thomas Chawner of Red Lyon Street Clerkenwell. Free, 3 July 1771. First mark entered as spoon maker, 20 August 1776. Address: Shoemaker’s Row, Blackfriars. Second mark, 29 October 1777. Third, 27 April 1779. Moved to Berkley Street, St. John’s Gate, 13 January 1781. Livery, March 1781. Fourth mark, 16 May1782. Fifth, 19 November 1784. Sixth, 27 November 1784. Seventh, 4 December 1786. Eighth, 5 March 1789. Ninth, 19 August 1789. Tenth, 10 July 1792. Eleventh, in partnership with George Bourne as plateworker, 5 June 1794. Twelfth mark alone, 11 July 1797. “Mr Northcote Goldsmith Berkley St. Clerkenwell (married) to Miss Cowley of Fetter Lane 12 Jan. 1788. (the Gentleman’s Magazine p 81). She was in fact Hannah Coley, daughter of Simeon Coley senior (q.v) bucklemaker. Northcote died 22 May 1798, aged forty-nine and was buried at Bunhill Fields, his widow entering her mark in continuance of the business , 6 June following.
