Ebenezer Coker, apprenticed to Joseph Smith 1728, free 1740. Worked in Clerkenwell.

First mark entered 1738. Second mark 1739. Third mark 1745. Fourth mark 1751. Fifth mark c. 1758. Another mark was entered in partnership with Thomas Hannam, 1759. Bankrupt by 1781 and died on 2 August 1783.

Specialist candlestick and salver maker. His work is always of a high standard.

In the earlier part of his career - until the late 1750s - principally a spoon maker.

London silversmith, no record of apprenticeship or freedom.

First mark entered as plateworker on 11th February, 1792. Address: 45 St John’s Street, West Smithfield.

Second mark 2nd August, 1800.

Third mark 8th August, 1800. Heal records him as Thomas (clearly a directory misprint), plateworker St John Street, 1792 and as Timothy, goldsmith, London , 1800-04.

Although the company records show no signs of his connections, it seems likely that Renou came from a considerable family of goldsmiths. The earliest recorded is Philippe Renou a refugee c. 1685; other London silversmiths working in the 1700s were Abraham Renou, Jacques Renou, James Renou, E Renou and Timothy Renou (grandfather?).

A Timothy Renou, perhaps son of the goldsmith, served as a midshipman in H. M. S. Colossus at Trafalgar. He was born at Berwick in 1789, which seems, however, to make the connection unlikely (The Nelson Collection at Lloyds, 1932 p. 10 footnote 25).

Renou’s mark is usually found on dinner plates, dishes and to a limited extent salvers, all of good quality and refinement of design.

Atkin Brothers business traces its origin to Thomas Law, a silversmith active in Sheffield from c. 1750 to 1775. He was one of the only two firms combining the trades of cutlers and general silversmiths. The business was continued by his sons John and William, and later by Joseph Law (probably the son of John, as in an 1830 directory he is quoted as "Joseph Law, late John Law &amp; Son").

In 1824, the mark of Jos. Law, Jn Oxley &amp; Henry Atkin (oddly the mark was "LL", possibly for Law &amp; Law) was entered and in 1829 Henry Atkin and John Oxley, trading as Atkin, Oxley &amp; Co, succeeded to the original firm. They dissolved their partnership c. 1840. Henry Atkin continued the trade as Henry Atkin &amp; Co at 32 Howard Street, Sheffield. He died in 1853, and his sons Harry Wright Atkin, Edward Thomas Atkin and Frank Shaw Atkin continued the trade under the style Atkin Brothers in their Truro Works, Matilda Street, Sheffield. The firm opened offices in London, managed by Harry Wright Atkin, and in 1925 became a limited liability company as Atkin Brothers (Silversmiths) Ltd.

Atkin Brothers manufactured a wide range of electroplate, Britannia Metal, silver and plated cutlery supplied to Thornhill &amp; Co - London, Barraclough &amp; Sons - Leeds, Ollivant &amp; Botsford - Manchester, James Crichton &amp; Co - Edinburgh, Hall &amp; co - Manchester, Fairfax &amp; Roberts - Sydney and many other firms in the United Kingdom and in the Colonies.

George Maudsley Jackson was born in Lewisham in 1856 and died on the 1st February 1918.

He entered into partnership in 1883 with Josiah Williams of Josiah Williams &amp; Co. of Bristol. He opened showrooms in London and entered his own assay mark. Following the death of Josiah Williams in 1894 the company continued to trade as Josiah Williams &amp; Co.

In 1897 George Jackson went into a new partnership with David Fullerton. The company produced some of the finest quality silver flatware of the period in most of the traditional patterns, still trading as Josiah Williams &amp; Co. of Bristol, but today generally known as Jackson &amp; Fullerton. The company closed in 1940.

George Howson was part of the firm Harrison Brothers and Howson.

Thomas Sansom, plate worker at Norfolk Street, Sheffield, entered his mark at Sheffield Assay Office on December 22, 1808. Later the business was continued as Thomas Sansom &amp; Sons, in partnership with his sons Abraham, John and William Sansom.

In 1847, the business was acquired by James William Harrison, Henry Harrison and James William Howson, acting as Harrison Brothers &amp; Howson. James William Harrison retired in 1876 and the business was continued by his partners. Later they were joined in the partnership by George Howson (son of J.W. Howson), Francis William Harrison (son of Henry Harrison) and John Brocksopp Wilkinson (nephew of J.W. Harrison).

From 1892, the activity was continued by George Howson, F.W. Harrison and J.B. Wilkinson. The firm was originally active at 67 Norfolk Street, Sheffield (1866-1896), expanding to Shoreham Street Works (1880) and to a new factory in Carver Street (1901). Harrison Brothers &amp; Howson opened its London showrooms at 11 Hatton Garden (1866) and 43-44 Holborn Viaduct (1885), moving to Regent Arcade House, 19-25 Aryle Street (1941). The trademark was taken over by Viners of Sheffield in 1923.

The firm used the trademark ALPHA PLATE, BEACON PLATE, HALPHROID and LUSTROUS. Later, the firm ceased its activity and the brand of Harrison Brothers &amp; Howson was revived in 1978, under the style of Harrison Brothers &amp; Howson Ltd, a subsidiary of Ben J. Dix of London Ltd.

Son of Samuel Langton late of Southwark  carpenter deceased , apprenticed to John Dingley of the Haberdashers’  Company  2 May 1701. Free, 14th May 1708. First mark entered as smallworker, 28 March 1716.Address: Lombard Street. “Free Haberdasher’.

Second mark, 28 October 1729 Address: Twister Alley, Bunhill Row, Bunhill Fields. Third mark, 17 March 1731. Fourth, 26 June 1732. Address Ironmonger Row near ye New Church in Old Street.

Heal records him only ad goldsmith, Wheatsheaf and Crown, Lombard Street, 1709-18.
