Antique Silver Charles II Porringer made in 1679

A Charles II silver two-handled porringer of circular bellied form. The porringer has scroll handles and is embossed with a running unicorn and lion within foliate scroll decoration. The base has the scratch initials of “L” over “WI”, as well as on the side.

The lion and unicorn on this lovely porringer are symbolic of the restoration of the monarchy – the tulip decoration is popular at this period, as of course, Charles II was exiled in the Netherlands.

The porringer is in excellent condition and a fine patina.

The porringer  has the maker’s mark of TC with a fish above. For maker’s mark see Jacksons, Ian Pickford Edition, The Antique Collectors Club 1989, page 133.

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
