The dish is fully marked on the base with Minerva marks and has a rocaille (acanthus leaves) finial, handles and border.

The dish and stand are made very much in the French style of the 1760s and 1770s.

The stand is engraved with the crest of the Maharajah of Baroda from whose estate this came. At the time this was made he had the largest palace in the world, the Laxmi Vilas Palace. This was clearly made for his palace which was built in 1890.

The dish was made in Paris c. 1890 by Jean-Baptiste Franҫois and the stand is by Paul Canaux.
