Dimensions: height 9.2 cm, width 7.62; weight 4.1 troy oz.
Thomas Ollivant was a Manchester retailer who registered his mark on 12 May 1789 at 16 Exchange St. The directories from 1794 onwards show various entries for the firm. Ollivant, Sons and Nephew, silversmiths, 18 Exchange St.
In about 1855, he was joined by J.W. Botsford, and traded as Ollivant and Botsford in Manchester up to 1951.
Ollivant died in 1868.
Thomas Ollivant purchased most of his holloware stock from the Bateman family of London and then struck his mark over the top (essentially an early form of own branding!)
