Antique French Silver Dish made for the Maharaja of Baroda in 1905
A fine antique French 1st standard 950 silver dish. The circular dish has two leaf-shaped handles, a shaped rim and a reeded border interspersed with a cross design. The dish is engraved on both sides with the crown and sabre for the Maharaja of Baroda.

A fine antique French 1st standard 950 silver dish. The circular dish has two leaf-shaped handles, a shaped rim and a reeded border interspersed with a cross design.
The dish is engraved on both sides with the crown and sabre for the Maharaja of Baroda and is amazingly heavy in weight.
This dish would be ideal as a vegetable dish or to hold fruit.
Dimensions: interior diameter 25.40 cm; weight 54 troy oz.
Provenance: Sayaji Rao Gaekwar III, Maharaja of Baroda (1875 – 1939), until acquired by Shiri Kirtilal Manilal Mehta (1907 – 1993) and descent to, Mrs Charu Kishor Mehta (b. 1943).
The Maharaja was one of India’s richest men, with a palace the largest dwelling in India – four times the size of Buckingham Palace.
