Silver Bells
The earliest known examples of silver bells are rarely seen before 1790. The vast majority were made in the 19th century, and they are still being made today.
Antique Silver Bells are usually circular, hollow objects with a handle and attached internal clapper; designed to vibrate when struck and emit a musical note.
Bells were used regularly and on view in various situations. The early ones were often originally part of an inkstand and were used to summon a servant to deliver a letter. The standard form of the silver bell has changed little since its inception, and they are popular both as gifts and amongst collectors.
Here at William Walter Antiques, we have a delightful collection of bells which would make perfect gifts.
