William Walter Antiques is pleased to offer a fine selection of stunning sterling silver- and silver-plated cocktail shakers to add elegance to your bar.
Although cocktail shakers can be found pre-First World War the golden age of the cocktail shaker was almost certainly from the 1920-1950s and a huge variety of shapes and sizes were made with many different forms of decoration, although the great majority were plain.
Most cocktail shakers are in three sections where there is a main body from which one can pull off a detachable strainer section on which a removable cap fits. Some cocktail shakers were made in only two sections rather like two slightly different sized beakers which fit inside each other and then can be pulled apart after shaking the cocktail.
Most cocktail shakers tend to be of about a pint capacity (568 ml) but can be smaller and much larger than this. Silver cocktail shakers were made in many countries, not just the UK and USA but were very popular in China especially Shanghai and Japan(often made for the American market)and were made throughout Europe.
At William Walter we have a fine selection of cocktail shakers from around the world from the very plain, to exotic oriental shakers and hand hammered designs.
