A rare small silver box made circa 1795 by Robert Jones of Liverpool bearing the family crest of Admiral Hood, either for Admiral Alexander Hood or Admiral Samuel Hood.
This delightful Georgian box is of plain form and the crest is engraved on the lid.
The box was made by Robert Jones at his workshop at 65 Castle St Liverpool and would have retailed it at his shop at No 1 Water St Liverpool.
The box which is in good condition is struck with Robert Jones makers mark to the base interior and to the interior of the lid.
A rare box belonging to one of Britain’s most famous Admirals.
It is unclear to which of the two it belonged as they both used the same crest ,A Cornish Chough in front of an anchor. An unusual and rare Liverpool made piece belonging to a very famous naval family.
