Out of stock
An impressive and unusually large pair of Victorian silver neoclassical style candlesticks.
They have square bases with acanthus decoration leading to an unusual and attractive band of acorns surmounting plain stems.
The Corinthian column sconces are finely detailed and retain both of their original detachable nozzles.
The candlesticks remain in good condition.
They are made by Joseph and Horace Savory of The Goldsmiths Alliance.
It is rare to find 19th century candlesticks as tall as this.
Dimensions: 33.65 cm
Goldsmiths’ Alliance Ltd, formed in 1866, originated as the company started by Adey Bellamy Savory in 1812, who traded as goldsmith, foreign coin dealer and spoon and fork manufacturer.
His sons, Joseph Savory and Albert Savory, entered the business in 1833 and the business expanded to manufactory of gold, silver, jewellery, electro and Sheffield plate, and also watches and clocks. Between 1855 and 1865 the company used the mark of William Smily and from 1865 to 1879 the mark of Samuel Smily.
In 1893, the firm went voluntarily out of business and was taken over by the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd.
