A good pair of late eighteenth century style candlesticks,  c 1790 , which  have bands of reeding across the stems and also around the knops.

Description

A good pair of late eighteenth century style candlesticks, c 1790 , which  have bands of reeding across the stems and also around the knops.

The candlesticks were  made in Birmingham in 1971 by Barker Ellis.

They have oval bases which are surmounted by oval stems and corresponding oval detachable nozzles.

The candlesticks are clearly hallmarked on the side and both nozzles and  the bases, which are part silver underneath which is a nice feature , one nozzle 1970.

They are of excellent quality and in very good condition.

On the other side to the hallmarks England is engraved which Barker Ellis often used to strike 50 years ago and earlier as they had a large export trade to America at that time.

BARKER BROTHERS, BARKER BROTHERS SILVERSMITHS LTD, BARKER ELLIS SILVER CO

Business established in Birmingham in 1801. The firm still possesses the original Boulton & Watt dies acquired during its early days of manufacturing. The business appears in an 1871 directory as Barker Brothers, silversmiths active in Paradise Street.

In 1903, they moved to new factory premises, Unity Works, Constitution Hill, Birmingham, where it remained until the 1980s maintaining a London showroom during the early part of the 20th century.

In 1907, the firm was converted into a limited liability company under the style Barker Brothers Silversmiths Ltd.

Levi & Salaman Ltd and its subsidiary Potosi Silver Co were incorporated by Barker Brothers in 1921.

In the 1960s, merging with Ellis & Co (Birmingham) Ltd, the firm changed to Barker Ellis Silver Co Ltd.

On January 2, 1979, the firm obtained a Federal registration in the USA for the trademarks Ellis & Co, Barker Ellis and Ellis Barker (the marks were cancelled in 1988)

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
