Pair of Matched Antique Silver Salt Cellars made in 1821-35

A matched pair of antique silver salt cellars with beautiful gilt interiors – one made in 1821 and the other to match in 1835.
They are virtually identical with the 1835 salt perhaps a tiny bit larger (not that one would notice!)
They are both of lovely quality with bold shell borders, a lobed lower body and stand on four ball feet.
The 1821 salt is hallmarked underneath and the 1835 one to the side.
The salts could be bought as a single if desired.
Dimensions: height 4.2 cm, width 10 cm; weight (the pair) 8.32 troy oz.
N.B. the 1835 salt is .7 of a troy oz heavier.
George Fox (1816 – 1910). Son of Charles Fox, entered a joint maker’s mark with his brother Charles Thomas Fox, from 139 Old Street, where they are listed until 1852 as working silversmiths.
C.T. & G. Fox then moved to 13 Queen Street (renamed 13 Bateman Street in 1885), Soho, where they are listed as working silversmiths. Charles Thomas Fox retired on 31 December 1860, leaving George Fox as sole partner in the firm of C.T. & G. Fox.
The business moved in 1891 to 50 Berwick Street, Soho, where in 1892, they are listed as manufacturing silversmiths, repairs, gilding, plating etc. to the trade. His work, according to Grimwade, shows consistently high quality and describes him as perhaps the last individualist silversmith before the debacle of Victorian mass production.

Purchases will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, FedEx, Parcel Force, A-Z couriers; other delivery providers may be used in extenuating circumstances. We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.
Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.
Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.
All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
