Description

A fine pair of antique silver George III sauce tureens of neoclassical form.

The covers and bodies are half-fluted with two loop handles and beaded borders.

The tureens are engraved with the original crest and coat of arms for the marriage on 28th February 1786 of Joseph Crompton of York to Anna Maria Rookes of Roydes Hall, Yorkshire.

These elegant tureens have cast feet rather than hammered, which gives them a very substantial feel.

One tureen is hallmarked underneath the foot and the other on the side of the foot. Both are correctly hallmarked with the standard mark on the rims of each lid.

A very stylish pair of tureens by a fine maker.

Dimensions: height 16.5 cm, length 25.5 cm, width 11.5 cm; weight 44.5 troy oz.

In January 1776, he works alone and retires in the early 1790s.

He worked at 12 Clerkenwell Green.
