Pair of George III Antique Silver Neoclassical Candlesticks made in 1780

A pair of superb large neoclassical eighteenth century silver candlesticks which stand on square bases with beaded borders, which also have decorations of bows and swags , very much in the taste of Robert Adam.
The candlesticks are in beautiful condition.
One candlestick edge bears the number 4 and the number 43 indicating that they were originally part of a set of 4. The weight of all four before being filled was 43 troy oz.
A wonderful pair of candlesticks over 240 years old.

Fenton, Creswick & Co, a Sheffield partnership involving Matthew Fenton (an apprentice of Thomas Law), Richard Creswick and William Watson. Active as silversmiths and Sheffield platers they were among the first to enter their mark at the Sheffield Assay Office in 1773.
Fenton left the firm in 1789 and was replaced by Edward Oakes. The firm became Fenton, Creswick, Oakes & Co. In 1795 the partnership was dissolved and the business carried on as Watson & Co, a partnership of Thomas Watson, James Fenton and Thomas Bradbury I (a former apprentice of the firm).
Later, Thomas Bradbury II (son of Thomas Bradbury I) and William Watson (nephew of Thomas Watson) became partners.
When William Watson retired in 1831 the business passed to Bradburys (Thomas I and II) as Thomas Bradbury & Son. In 1855 the firm changed its name to Thomas Bradbury & Sons, under the partnership of Joseph and Edward Bradbury (sons of Thomas Bradbury II). In 1877 the partners were Thomas Bradbury III (brother of Joseph Bradbury) and John Sutherland Henderson. The partnership was dissolved in 1888 and the firm was managed by Walton Turner Bradbury, Joseph Bradbury Jr and Frederick Bradbury (sons of Joseph Bradbury Sr). Frederick Bradbury is the author of the fundamental book “A History of Old Sheffield Plate”.
The business was converted into a limited liability company in 1905, under the style Thomas Bradbury & Sons Ltd.

Purchases will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, FedEx, Parcel Force, A-Z couriers; other delivery providers may be used in extenuating circumstances. We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.
Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.
Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.
All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
