A pair of beautiful George II cast silver candlesticks of knopped form with faceted stems on shaped-square bases. The candlesticks were given as a gift to The Hon Margaret Davys, daughter of the 1st Viscount Mountcashel, on her marriage to James Barry, 5th Earl of Barrymore on 8 June 1738.

A pair of beautiful George II cast silver candlesticks of knopped form with faceted stems on shaped-square bases. They are of a very heavy gauge and very fine quality.

These candlesticks are incredibly elegant and would grace any home.

Dimensions: height 18 cm, base 11 cm Weight 33 Troy ozs

Provenance: The candlesticks were given as a gift to The Hon Margaret Davys, daughter of the 1st Viscount Mountcashel, on her marriage to James Barry, 5th Earl of Barrymore on 8 June 1738. She subsequently gave them as a gift in 1757, as per the inscription under the base.

John Luff

John Luff, a London silversmith, apprenticed in 1711. Hallmark registered – 2nd October 1724. Worked at Gunpowder Alley, New Street, Shoe Lane. Appears to be working until the late 1740s.

His work – which is quite rare – is always of exceptional quality. He appears to have specialised in holloware such as candlesticks, coffee pots and salvers.

Purchases will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, FedEx, Parcel Force, A-Z couriers; other delivery providers may be used in extenuating circumstances. We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
