Pair of George II Antique Silver Salt Cellars made in 1755

A delightful pair of George II antique silver salt cellars which are of traditional cauldron shape and stand on three hoof feet.
The salt cellars have an undulating gadroon border and have a pair of white glass liners.
They are in excellent condition.
Dimensions: diameter 7 cm; weight 5.25 troy oz.
Son of William Justis of Reading in the Country of Berkshire carpenter, apprenticed to John Fawdery on 17th December 1712 on payment of £4.00, and turned over on 13th May 1718 to Richard Bayley of Foster Lane, Goldsmith.
Free 5th January 1721.
First mark entered as largeworker, undated between April 1731 and January 1733. Address: Staining Lane, near Goldsmiths’ Hall, Goldsmith.
Second mark, 28th June 1739. Moved to Wood Street, 8th December 1750.
His son, William, was apprenticed to him on 6th May 1747 and later turned over to David Field Citizen and Turner. Mary, daughter of William and Dorothy Justis, was born on 26th May 1745 (Christchurch, Newgate, incorporating St. Leonards, Foster Lane).
Heal records him variously as Justis, Justise or Justus, plateworker, Golden Ball, Staining Lane near Haberdashers’ Hall, 1731 – 1755. His mark appears usually on salvers and waiters.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.
All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
