Description

A fine pair of late 18th-century style octagonal panelled antique silver candlesticks.

The candlesticks stand on oval bases and the bases have a reeded border.

The candlesticks have conforming detachable nozzles and are fully hallmarked.

They are in excellent condition.

They are made in London in 1913 for the well known Bradford retailer, Manoah Rhodes.

This business is said to have been established in 1836.

The partners are noted subsequently to have been Manoah Rhodes, who retired on 20th March 1881, Manoah Sharpley Rhodes, who retired on 21st May 1885 and Joseph Rhodes who appears to have retired by 5th April 1888 when the firm was registered as a limited liability company under the style of Manoah Rhodes & Sons Ltd.,with Thomas Ackroyd Rhodes (otherwise Ackroyd Rhodes) as Managing Director.

Representing the company, Ackroyd Rhodes is recorded at 45 Kirkgate, Bradford, Yorkshire from 12th August 1893 to 4th August 1910.

The London premises first at 31 St Bridge Street, Ludgate Circus, EC. 12th August 1893 and then at 64 Hatton Garden, EC. 28th August 1895.

We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
