Description

These exceptional mid eighteenth century antique cast George II sterling silver, have shaped six shell bases with conforming shaped detachable nozzles.

Each capital is fitted with the original hallmarked push fit sconce, accented with shell decoration to the corners.

The upper portion of the waisted shaped column features a panelled quatrefoil shaped knop embellished with a lobed shell designs.

Each panelled column is further ornamented with a plain circular knop to the lower portion.

These antique Georgian silver candlesticks are cast do not have weighted bases.

Dimensions, height 8.5 inches, 21.6 cm.

No record of apprenticeship or freedom. First mark entered as largeworker, in partnership with Robert Abercromby, 11 May 1731. Address: Christopher Court, St. Martin’s Le Grand. Second mark alone, 6 July 1731, same address. Third mark, undated, between 24 December 1735 and 18 March 1736. Address: Glasshouse Yard, Blackfriars. Fourth mark (two sizes), 27 June 1739, same address. Moved to Essex Street, Strand, 7 December 1748. Moved to ‘ye Strand’, 9 July 1753 (register entry without mark). Fifth mark, 15 September 1753. Heal records him as plateworker, St. Martin’s Le Grand, 1731; Blackfriars, 1735; Glasshouse Street, 1739; and as goldsmith, Blackmoors Head, Strand, 1743; goldsmith, Tooley Street, Southwark; and jeweller and goldsmith, Crown opposite Durham Yard, Strand, and King’s Arms and Birdcage, opposite Durham Yard, both c.1750. Like his partner for a few months, Abercromby, Hindmarsh seems to have made practically nothing but salvers , waiters chambersticks and candlesticks

Purchases will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, FedEx, Parcel Force, A-Z couriers; other delivery providers may be used in extenuating circumstances. We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
