A magnificent James II silver lidded tankard. The mark of the maker is that of I A Monogram of London. The tankard was later chased in 1842, when it was presented to Henry Garlick by the gentlemen of the Duke of Beauforts’s Hunt.

Description

A magnificent James II antique silver lidded tankard made in 1687. The mark of the maker is that of I A Monogram of London. The tankard was later chased in 1842, when it was presented to Henry Garlick by the gentlemen of the Duke of Beauforts’s Hunt.

The body of the tankard is embellished with hunting scenes, and, at the base, it has a border depicting six fox heads and tails (brush). The hinged lid has an impressive thumbpiece.

The lid is engraved with the following inscription: “Hyam Park. Henry Garlick was presented with this Tankard by the Gentlemen of the Duke of Beaufort’s Hunt for his liberal support to Fox Hunting 1842.”

Hyam Park is near Malmesbury, Wiltshire.

Dimensions: height 17.4 cm, width 14.4 cm; weight 35.5 troy oz.

Purchases will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, FedEx, Parcel Force, A-Z couriers; other delivery providers may be used in extenuating circumstances. We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
