A very rare Henry VIII silver apostle spoon made in London by the specialist spoon maker William Simpson in 1534.
The spoon has a fig-shaped bowl , faceted stem and the nimbus is pierced.
The terminal of the spoon which still retains some of its original gilding is a representation of The Apostle St Paul.
The spoon is in excellent condition and of good colour and this is the year that Henry VIII became head of the Church of England.

“The first half of the 16th century was dominated by the specialist spoonmaker who used as his mark a fringed “S”, which has been noted on many spoons between about 1510 and about 1545. I believe that almost certainly this man can be identified as William Simpson “

Purchases will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, FedEx, Parcel Force, A-Z couriers; other delivery providers may be used in extenuating circumstances. We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.
Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.
