Description

A double-lipped antique French 1st standard 950 silver sauce boat on stand with a removable silver liner.

The sauce boat is of oval form with two leaf-shaped handles and a reeded border interspersed with a cross design. The sauce boat is mounted on a fixed stand which has a shaped leaf edge. The stand is engraved with the crown and sabre for the Maharaja of Baroda.

It is in very fine condition and of substantial weight.

Dimensions: sauce boat 20.32 x 9.53 cm, stand 23.50 x 10.16 cm; weight 38 troy oz.

Provenance: Sayaji Rao Gaekwar III, Maharaja of Baroda (1875 – 1939), until acquired by Shiri Kirtilal Manilal Mehta (1907-1993) and descent to, Mrs Charu Kishor Mehta (b. 1943).

The Maharaja was one of India’s richest men, with a palace the largest dwelling in India – four times the size of Buckingham Palace.

Purchases will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, FedEx, Parcel Force, A-Z couriers; other delivery providers may be used in extenuating circumstances. We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
