Commonwealth Antique Silver Seal Top Spoon 1656 Steven Venables of London.
A rare Commonwealth period (Cromwell) seal top spoon.
The seal top spoon is in excellent condition with very faint traces that it was gilt sometime.
The seal is what is known as a decorative baluster top.
Steven Venables was an important maker during the mid seventeenth century (see biography).
Dimensions ,length 16.4 cm.
Weight, 1.2 troy oz.
London silversmith and notable spoon maker. Born in 1613 and died in 1683.
Venables completed his apprenticeship to Daniel Cary and became free in 1640.
