An exceptional antique Victorian  sterling silver pepper pot which has been realistically modelled in the form of an owl/owlet.

The owl is well modelled and is gilded to the inside.

It is in good condition ,made in London in 1863 by George Richards and Edward Brown.

Dimensions, height 7 cm.

The firm was established in 1843 at 26 1/2 Seckforde Street, Clerkenwell by George John Richards (c.1817 – 1876), son of William Richards (silversmith, Citizen and Goldsmith).
George John Richards obtained his freedom of the Goldsmiths’ Company by Patrimony in 1839 and entered his first mark on 16 May 1844.
In 1850 he moved to 35 Whiskin Street and in 1853 to 20 Red Lion Street, Clerkenwell.
In 1857 George J. Richards entered in partnership with Edward Charles Brown registering a conjoined mark on 13 July 1857.
Edward C. Brown was an apprentice (1845) of George J. Richards who obtained his freedom by Service in 1852.
Another apprentice was William Comyns (1849) who obtained his freedom in 1856.
George J. Richards retired in 1867 and Edward Charles Brown continued the activity trading as Richards & Brown.

Purchases will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, FedEx, Parcel Force, A-Z couriers; other delivery providers may be used in extenuating circumstances. We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
