A rare one date and maker Victorian Antique Silver Fiddle Thread and Shell Pattern Cutlery /flatware service for 12 in the fiddle thread and shell pattern all made in the last year of Queen Victoria’s reign 1901 (one teaspoon 1843 London).

This heavy quality service is quite extensive and features extremely rare Victorian round bowl soup spoons (instead of the more commonly encountered table spoons).

The service comprises,

12 round bowl soup spoons,

24 table forks,

12 dessert spoons,

12 dessert forks,

12 tea spoons,

6 tablespoons for serving,

Pair of sauce ladles,

Basting spoon,

Soup ladle.

The knives to match are in the thread and shell pattern and comprise 12 table knives and 12 dessert knives with silver handles and stainless steel blades. These were made later and are safe to use in a dishwasher.

Total pieces 106.

The service is in excellent condition and of a lovely weight.

Maker
Joseph Rodgers

A famous firm of cutlers and silversmiths founded in Sheffield in 1682. It was converted under the style of Joseph Rodgers & Sons Ltd in 1871.

The factory was at 6 Norfolk Street, Sheffield and a showroom at 60 Holborn Viaduct, London. New large works were opened in 1899 at River Lane, Sheffield.

The firm was active also in Sheaf Island Works, in Middlewood Forge and in Pond Hill Works.

George Rodgers was the son of Joseph Rodgers and participated to the partnership Joseph Rodgers & Sons. George Rodgers & Co active at 13 Norfolk Lane, Sheffield in 1852 was possibly linked to him and to Joseph Rodgers’ family.

The firm used the trademark ELITE.

Purchases will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, FedEx, Parcel Force, A-Z couriers; other delivery providers may be used in extenuating circumstances. We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
