Out of stock
An elegant antique silver oval-shaped George III teapot stand with a gadroon border.
The stand is in excellent condition and underneath it is fitted with its original mahogany base (and even the original baize).
We have pictured it with a teapot made in 1805 by Robert Sharp.
Dimensions: length 15.3, width 11.25 cm
No record of apprenticeship or freedom. First mark entered as plateworker, in partnership with William Fountain on 29th July 1791. Address: 13 Hosier Lane, West Smithfield. Partnership apparently dissolved by 1st September 1794, when Fountain entered a separate mark.
Second mark alone, 10th September 1794, same address. Moved to 8 St John’s Square, Clerkenwell on 1st April 1811.
Heal records the partnership as above and Pontifex alone, both same dates; and Pontifex and Fountain, silversmiths, same address, 1796. His work, particularly fine silver-gilt dessert-dishes and baskets, shows a high standard of execution and delicacy of design.
