Description

A magnificent and large neoclassical soup tureen made by the important partnership of Daniel Smith and Robert Sharp.

The tureen – which is of oval form – has classically beaded borders and has reeded loop handles terminating in acanthus leaves.

The lid is surmounted by a conforming oval urn-shaped finial. It is fully hallmarked on the foot and the lid.

Alongside the date letter, “WW” is stamped which would have been a stamp used by the original retailer of the tureen.

It is in excellent condition and made by one of the most important makers of the period.

Dimensions: length (over handles) 45.5 cm, length (excluding handles) 33.2 cm, width 23.75 cm; weight 90 troy oz.

Daniel Smith and Robert Sharp, a London silversmith partnership 1763 – 1788. Working at 14, Westmoreland Buildings, Aldersgate.

Very important makers whose work is always of outstanding quality. They supplied silver to the Royal Family and the upper echelons of British society.

Their mark is normally found on holloware such as plates, dishes, cups and salvers. They made very fine Candlesticks and Candelabra, too.

Delivery Details

We provide worldwide postage/shipping and everything is fully tracked and insured. Purchases will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, FedEx, Parcel Force, A-Z couriers; other delivery providers may be used in extenuating circumstances. We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
