An early Georgian soup ladle in the rare shouldered Old English pattern. The pattern is referred to as Old English pattern with shoulders, as it has protruding 'shoulders' near to the bowl. This was used for a short period from the early 1760s to the early 1770s.

An early Georgian soup ladle in the rare shouldered Old English pattern.
The pattern is referred to as Old English pattern with shoulders, as it has protruding ‘shoulders’ near to the bowl. This was used for a short period from the early 1760s to the early 1770s.
The ladle is in good condition and is in a rare style.

Son of George Baskerville of Winterbourne upon Bassett in the Country of Wiltshire yeoman, apprenticed to Joseph Sanders, undated but after 4 May 1732, on payment of £25.00
Freedom unrecorded. First mark entered as largeworker, 9 February 1738. Address: The Golden Acorn, Chandos Street.
Second mark, 26th July 1745. Address: Cock Court, St Martin’s Le Grand.
Third mark, 1 February 1751. Address: Round Court, Strand.
Fourth mark, in partnership with William Sampel, 27 January 1755. Address: New Inn Passage, Clare Market. Fifth mark alone, 3 September 1755, same address.
Appears as goldsmith, Albion Buildings, in Parl. Report list 1773. Sixth mark in partnership with Thomas Morley as plate workers, 6 May 1775. Address: 8 Albion Buildings.
Last mark alone as smallworker, 3 March 1780. He appears to have had an exceptionally long working life but the signatures throughout the above entries appear to be from the same hand and there is no reference to a son of the same name. Heal records him as of London up to 1792.
