Antique Silver George III Scottish Salver made in 1788, a baptismal gift to Lt Col Alexander Barton who later fought at Waterloo
A fine late 18th century Scottish salver with beautiful bright-cut Adam style decoration.
The salver is circular with a beaded rim and stands on four scroll and shell feet.
The salver was a baptismal gift in 1788 to the later Lt Col Alexander Barton who fought at Waterloo. It is engraved to the back with: “a present from Mrs Paterson to Alexander Barton her Grandson 1788”.
It is engraved to the front with the original armorials of the Barton Family.
The condition of the salver is excellent and it was made in the year of the foundation of Australia (see pictures for Alexander Barton’s resume).

Robert Gray began to work in Glasgow in 1776 when he became a freeman. He opened a new business in 1802 under the style Robert Gray & Son.
The firm used the Edinburgh Assay Office until 1819, after which, and until 1852, their work was assayed exclusively in Glasgow.

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.
Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.
All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
