A rare and unusual pierced border George III antique silver salver which has complementary pierced and cast feet.
The circular salver has a fine beaded border and pierced palmette decoration in a very fine and decorative arrangement.
The salver showcases the typical neo – classical style that this rare maker ( Peter Desvignes) of Huguenot extraction tends to display.
Dimensions, full width 20 cm , interior 16 cm, height 2.5 cm .

Peter Desvignes
No record of apprenticeship or freedom. Only mark entered as smallworker, 28 June 1771.Address: Old Benton Street, Long Acre (spelt “Akee”). He appears as goldworker, Old Belton Street, Long Acre, in the Parl. Report list 1773. He or a son of the same names entered an incuse mark as goldworker, with Ann Macaire, 11 November 1793, at 13 Denmark Street, Soho, and he alone. 9 May 1796 at same address, probably after marrying her, since Ann Desvigny alone, presumably as widow, entered a further mark, 5 October 1813, at 44 Rosoman Street, Clerkenwell (Section V , AM (over) PD etc). Desvignes should not be confused with Peter Devese, goldsmith , Queen Street , Golden Square, who also appears in the Parl. Report list. The name Peter Desergnes ( Jackson, page 256) is apparently a misprint, the “vi”of -vignes being read as “er” at some point of transcription.
