A rare and magnificent Georgian silver basket.
This large oblong basket has an egg and dart decorated border with a stunning cast and pierced vine leaf border surrounding the plain interior.
The swing-handle and foot of the basket are also finely pierced.
The basket bears two important family crests – one to either end. The crests both have royal crowns above and one crest is encircled by a motto of the Order of the Garter.
This would be a lovely centrepiece and perfect for bread, cake, fruit or biscuits.
Dimensions: height (to top of handle) 25 cm, length 34.5 cm, width 26.5 cm; weight 47.5 troy oz.
William Elliott (1773 – 1855), son of London plate worker William Elliott, apprenticed to Richard Gardner of Silver Street, Golden Square, Middlesex, Goldsmith, Citizen and Goldsmith on payment of £7.14 of the charity of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, 7th May 1787. Free 1st April 1795.
Mark entered as plateworker, partnership with John William Story, 6th October 1809. Address: 25 Compton Street, Clerkenwell.
Second mark, alone, 7th September 1813, same address. Described as silversmith in the apprenticeship to him of James Parkin, 6th October 1819 at the same address, and still there in 1823 (apprenticeship of John Evans) and 5th January 1825, when his son Richard William was also bound to him. Livery, January 1822. Died between 1853 and 1855.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.
All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
