An excellent quality 18th century Georgian silver mug of gentle baluster form with a cast scroll handle.
The mug is of a slightly unusual size and will hold approximately 400 ml of beer (a regular bottle of beer is 330 ml).
The condition and patina of the mug is very good throughout.
Dimensions: height 11.75 cm; weight 10.2 troy oz.

London silversmith. Free by redemption 2 May 1764. First mark entered as smallworker in partnership with John Baker I , 18 April 1764. Address Cow Cross .
Moved to Ludgate Street, apparently 18 February 1765 when 2nd mark entered.
3rd mark in partnership 29 April 1768.; Livery, December 1771.
4th mark alone as plateworker , 6 July 1774. Address : 86, Cheapside , where he had already appeared as such in Parl. Reported list 1773.

The rapid succession of new punches indicates a quickly expanding business brought to an unexpected stop by Stamp’s death , 11 April 1780 ( The Gentleman’s Magazine, p 202) although his widow Frances appears to have carried on probably only for winding up or selling the business, which was subsequently succeeded at the same address by Sutton and Bult and after by Godbehere, Wigan and Bult (q.v) . Heal records Stamp as wrking goldsmith and jeweller, Ludgate Street, 1766; with John Barker as the same and at same address, 1768, partnership dissolved 1770; Stamp alone , 86 Cheapside, 1772-9 and James and Francis (sic) Stamp (succeeded by James Sutton ) 1780.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.
All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
