An elegant early eighteenth century salver with ‘Chippendale or Piecrust’ border.
The salver stands on four bold scroll feet and is in very fine condition with a lovely patina.
This is about as early a date as one usually finds a salver and this is a lovely example by a maker who specialised in the making of salvers.
Dimensions, diameter 23.5 cm.
Weight, 18 troy oz.
Son of Samuel Langton late of Southwark carpenter deceased , apprenticed to John Dingley of the Haberdashers’ Company 2 May 1701. Free, 14th May 1708. First mark entered as smallworker, 28 March 1716.Address: Lombard Street. “Free Haberdasher’.
Second mark, 28 October 1729 Address: Twister Alley, Bunhill Row, Bunhill Fields. Third mark, 17 March 1731. Fourth, 26 June 1732. Address Ironmonger Row near ye New Church in Old Street.
Heal records him only ad goldsmith, Wheatsheaf and Crown, Lombard Street, 1709-18.
