A wonderfully decorative antique silver large casket in the French 18th century style (at the time of Marie Antoinette) and features medallions, rams heads, swags and other classical motifs.
This beautiful box was originally made in Hanau, Germany especially for the English market by George Roth. It contains one set of marks attributed to George Roth and the other set are the English marks for 1903, London.
It still retains its original key.
The box would be lovely for jewellery, but could be used for tea and biscuits.
Dimensions: height 10.5 cm, length (at the widest across the base) 19 cm, width 12 cm; weight 23.15 troy oz.
Edwin Thompson Bryant
Worked for James Thredder Son & Co, whose business appears to have been established by James Thredder, who in 1852, is listed as a custom house agent at 12, Harp Lane, Lower Thames Street. In 1889, when Edwin Thompson Bryant registered a first mark on behalf of the firm, James Thredder, Son & Co are listed at 25 Great Tower Street, EC where they remained until 1892. In 1893, they are listed at 73, 74 & 75 Lower Thames Street, EC.

Scheid of Vienna, retailed by James Crichton & Co, goldsmiths of 47 George Street, Edinburgh and singing bird box, London 1911 probably of German manufacture.
