Antique Silver Charles I Seal Top Spoon made in 1629
An antique silver Charles I baluster decorated seal top spoon.
The spoon is engraved to the top with the prick dotted initials of the original owner – which looks to be “E C” and the date “1629”. The last numeral is unclear, but it is believed it would be “9”.
The spoon is in good overall condition but shows some pit marks (mostly to the back). The spoon was found buried near Lavenham in Suffolk in 1932, so would have been pitted by acids in the soil.

Edward Hole (usually spelt Holles in the Court Books), was born in Castle Cary, Somerset. However, he was a London silversmith and was one of the most prolific spoon makers of the earlier 17th century.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.
