Son of Peter Jouet of St Giles without Cripplegate goldsmith, apprenticed to John Orchard 3rd April 1718 and turned over 20th June 1722 to Mr. Thomas Folkingham in Swithin’s Lane. Free 24th May 1725. Possibly the Simon Jovett of St. Bride’s, London, bachelor, married to Sarah Browne of the same parish, 29th September 1723, at St Bene’t, Paul’s Wharf. First Mark (New Standard) entered as largeworker, undated between 1724 and 1727, but presumably close to the entry of second (sterling) mark as smallworker, 21st July 1725. Address over against ye Victualling Office Little Tower Till, as Father Peter Jouet. Free of ye Goldsmiths Company. Third mark, 18th June 1739. Address: White Hart, Foster Lane. Moved to Cary Lane, 9th September 1746. Fourth mark, 29th February 1748. Address now at Aldersgate, April 5th 1749, where Heal records him until 1752. Moved to Kingsland, 27th March 1755 (register entry without mark). Became a member of the Honourable Artillery Company, 10th January 1749. He appears variously as Simon Jovet, Jovett or Jowett.
