John Broughton
Son of Edward Broughton of the parish of St. Sepulchre in the Country of Middlesex tallow chandler, apprenticed to Robert Albin Cox on 8th June 1757 on payment of £15.00.
Free 4th July 1764. Mark entered as plateworker on 8th January 1779. Address: 11 Well Yard, Little Britain. Heal records him as silversmith, St John’s Square, Clerkenwell, from 1767 - 1773 (where he appears as goldsmith in the Parl. Reports list 1773); in Bartholomew Close 1776 and in Little Britain 1779. It is very probable, therefore, that he entered a mark c. 1765, in the missing largeworker book of 1758 - 1773. This is supported by the fact of his taking Robert Gaze as apprentice, 6th February 1765.
