From Grimwade: Christopher Canner was the son of Edward Canner late of Tewkesbury in the County of Gloucester hosier, apprenticed to Francis Archbold on 18th June 1680 for eight years. Free 20th June 1688. Livery, April 1705. Mark entered as largeworker, undated, probably April 1697 on commencement of register. Address: Gutter Lane, where Heal records him till his death in 1708, recorded in the register of St. Michael le Quern: "Mr, Christopher Canner free of ye Goldsmiths was buried in ye New Vault from out of Gutter Lane Jany ye 12th 1707-8". The register of St. Vedast, Foster Lane, contains baptismal entries for his son Christopher and two daughters, from 1691 to 1694, from which appears his wife's name Mary. His mark is found usually on casters, suggesting specialisation, as also with Charles Adam another apprentice of Archbold's. Christopher Canner II Son of Christopher Canner I, born and baptised 18th December 1692. Free by patrimony, 18th May 1716. First mark entered as largeworker, 30th May 1716. Address: Maiden Lane. Second (Sterling) mark, 8th July 1720. Address: Foster Lane. Probably the Christopher Canner of St. Michael le Quern, bachelor, who married Mary Page of St. Andrew, Holborn, spinster, at St. Bene't, Paul's Wharf, 16th February 1722-3; they were parents of two sons, both Christopher, buried at St. Michael le Quern 1723 and 1725.
