A rare antique silver chased wine funnel of the George IV period. The chasing of the funnel is totally original to the piece and it still retains its original muslin ring.

The rim has a gadroon border and the body has beautiful floral chasing and a shell thumbpiece.

Chased wine funnels are quite rare and this is a fine example.

This wine funnel will sit beautifully on the 1828 wine funnel stand by James McKay, reference: W179 x 42

Charles Fox believed to be the son of Charles Fox I. His first mark entered as plate maker ,  signed Charles Fox junr, 19th February 1822. Address 139, Old Street, Second mark, 27 January 1823, Third, 21 August 1823, Fourth 23 September  1823, Firth 10 December 1823. Sixth , 9 May 1839. His work shows consistently high quality .

The rapid entry of marks suggests a fairly large establishment with with varying marks used for different categories of work .

Fox was perhaps the last individualist plate-worker before the debacle of Victorian mass production

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
