Description

A fine antique George II silver sugar or spice caster which is of baluster shape and stands on a circular stepped and spreading domed foot.

This silver caster retains the original push-fit cover and is embellished with impressive piercing.

The cover is surmounted by an impressive sterling silver finial.

The caster is engraved to one side with the original family crest of Wynne of Wales.

It is in excellent condition.

Dimensions: height 14 cm; weight 5.25 troy oz.

Samuel Wight Welles, son of Dabee (sic) Welles, Citizen and Leather seller of London, apprenticed to John Swift 28th September 1730 on Payment of £30.00. Free 5th July 1739.

Mark entered as largeworker, 2nd March 1741. Address: Staining Lane, “removed into Maiden Lane ” 7th November 1744. Moved to St. Ann’s Lane, 7th April 1755.

Heal records him only as plateworker, Staining Lane 1740; and London 1750.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
