Antique Silver Danish Agricultural Prize Beaker made in 1816

A large beaker with original gilt interior awarded as a prize by the Royal Agricultural Society in Denmark.

Stock NumberSa199x9

A large beaker with original gilt interior awarded as a prize by the Royal Agricultural Society in Denmark.

On one side of the beaker “Det Kongelige Landhuusholdning Selskab” is written in script… Which I think translates as ‘The Royal Society of Agriculture.” On the other side – engraved in old Danish – I think the translation reads: “To Farmer Lars Larsen and his wife in Nodebo for Industriousness and hard work.” Apologies for any translation errors.

Nodebo is a village about 40km north of Copenhagen.

Underneath the beaker it is struck with the makers mark for Nicolai Christiansen of Copenhagen 1816, and also has the assay masters mark of Frederick Fabritius. It can also be noted that “3 die baeger”  is engraved underneath – which may indicate it was a third prize beaker.

The beaker is in very good condition and of very large size. It will hold 600 ml.

Dimensions: 11.5 x 9 cm; weight 7.55 troy oz.
