A splendid William and Mary antique silver “Lighthouse" caster. The caster is of cylindrical form, with the bayonet fastened high-dome cover pierced with latticework.

A splendid William and Mary antique silver “Lighthouse” caster with the makers mark of Ralph Leeke c. 1695.

The caster is of cylindrical form, with the bayonet fastened high-dome cover pierced with latticework. The body of the caster is engraved with an armorial shield among ornate scrolls, raised on a gadrooned spreading circular base.

Dimensions: height 19.5 cm

Provenance: The arms are those of “Suckling” – blazoned per pale azure and gules and three bucks trippant or. Robert Suckling of Woodton Hall (1673- 1734) was the great uncle of Horatio Nelson.

Ralph Leeke

Ralph Leake (or Leeke) a London silversmith. Little is known about this fine 17th century silversmith however at some point he was working for the King’s goldsmith, Sir Robert Vyner . He also worked with Sir Christopher Wren.

Leake left a legacy of fine silverwares, many of which are on show in museums and galleries worldwide such as: silver gilt chalice and paten dated 1683 – 1684 in the V & A collection; The Royal Hospital Chelsea has a collection of magnificent silver-gilt altar plate hall-marked 1687-8 by Ralph Leake; French fountain in the Getty Museum; two wine cisterns – one in the V & A, the other belonging to the Goldsmith’s Company; The Marquess of Winchester’s Cup, one of the outstanding pieces of the Winchester College Collection.

Purchases will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, FedEx, Parcel Force, A-Z couriers; other delivery providers may be used in extenuating circumstances. We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
