This exceptional pair of sterling silver goblets have a plain circular bell-shaped form onto a waisted pedestal, standing on a square base.

Description

This exceptional pair of antique sterling silver goblets have a plain circular bell-shaped form onto a waisted pedestal, standing on a square base.

The upper rim is embellished with an engraved band of foliate ornamentation, interspersed with a stylised bird (possibly an eagle). The circular feet are ornamented with bands of leaf decoration.

The goblets are also engraved with a cartouche containing the initials “E C A”.

The goblets each have a capacity of 511 ml.

Alexander Field (British; Male; 1790). Address: 2 Bowling Green Walk, Haberdashers Row, Hoxton, London (biography from the British Museum).

Trade card in Heal Collection (Heal,67.139) advertises “Alexander Field, Working Silversmith…Makes Wine Funnels, Pap Boats, Punch Ladles, &c. In the Greatest Variety and on the Most Reasonable Terms.” Heal’s annotations on mount: “The Apprenticeship records at Goldsmiths’ Company give Alexr. Field, goldsmith, Hoxton, Middlesex, 3 Nov 1790.

Purchases will be sent via Royal Mail Special Delivery, FedEx, Parcel Force, A-Z couriers; other delivery providers may be used in extenuating circumstances. We deliver to the address provided at the time of purchase but not to PO addresses, as a signature is required upon delivery.

Some countries levy import duties and local taxes. Payment of these is the purchaser’s responsibility and beyond the control of William Walter Antiques Ltd. When the container has reached the destination country, a customs representative will contact you for payment prior to delivery.

Import restrictions are applicable to some destinations, especially the import of products containing materials such as ivory and tortoiseshell. We cannot accept orders requiring shipment to any countries which implement such controls.

All items are checked and photographed prior to packaging, and we aim to dispatch 1-3 days after receiving cleared payment.
