Antique Silver George III Two-Handled Tray made in 1791

An exceptional antique silver George III oval silver two-handled tray with reeded borders and handles.
The handles have leaf junctions, further prick-dot banded decoration and a continuous band of flower head roundels.
The centre is engraved with the coat of arms and crest of the Short family.
The shield and crest were granted to SHORT of Tenterden, Kent in 1614.
Dimensions: length (from handle to handle) 55.5 cm, main body 48 x 35.5 cm
Thomas Hannam completed his apprenticeship to John Cafe in 1761 and went into partnership with John Crouch in 1765.
The firm was known particularly as makers of fine quality trays, salvers and waiters.
Their earlier marks also appear on cast candlesticks (likely due to Hannam’s apprenticeship to the Cafes).
